PA Safe Roads PAC (State)
Hopes and prayers for safer roads are just not enough. We need skilled and experienced lobbyists to navigate the halls of Pennsylvania’s General Assembly and connect with state representatives and senators.
The Pennsylvania State House in Harrisburg is home to 203 House Representatives and 50 State Senators, where they consider legislation throughout the year that impacts vulnerable road users throughout the state. For example, there is a piece of legislation known as HB 1283 that would allow parking-protected bike lanes to be installed on state roads. This law proposes to amend the current PA vehicle code that requires cars to be parked within 12 inches of a curb. The amendment is needed because parking-protected bike lanes would shift the parked cars significantly further than 12 inches from the curb. Advocates, including the PA Safe Roads PAC and the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, argue that these parking-protected bike lanes would create a physical buffer between traffic and cyclists/pedestrians, thereby improving safer access to vulnerable road users.

Piscitello Law is honored to join state/local advocates in current efforts to pass HB1283 in the Senate. Marissa Perrone and Joseph Piscitello spent the June 4th, 2024, Lobby Day with Bicycle Coalition advocates/volunteers John and Will Tung visiting state reps and senators like Representative Raab, who stood in solidarity with our efforts to seek final passage of the bill. We also had the privilege of meeting Representative Mary Jo Daley, who introduced HB 12834 in May 2023. Rep Daley lost her niece, Erin Wilson, to traffic violence.
