Philadelphia Bike Expo
Convention Center, Philadelphia | March 8, 2025

During the weekend of the Philly Bike Expo, seminars are happening at the same time as exhibitors are in place. On March 8, 2025, our office presented a Bike Law Seminar that focused on laws we need to make our roads safe. The Seminar covered four laws in play for 2025:
- Parking Protected Bike Lanes
- Get Out the Bike Lane
- Speed Camera Expansion
- Jay Alert Notification (hit & runs)
The seminar was presented by Joe Piscitello & Marissa Perrone of Piscitello Law, and we were joined by several road safety advocates, including Nicole Brunet, then Policy Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia. Nicole shared important background to several pieces of legislation as well as updates on efforts with lawmakers. In December 2024, Mayor Cherelle Parker signed Bill no. 240657 known as the “Get out the Bike Lane Bill,” which is designed to deter stopping in bike lanes by imposing a fee. The bill also provides for dedicated loading zones to create more predictability in bike lane traffic and movement. At the time of the Expo, that bill was in early implementation stages.

We devoted the second half of the talk to Ayeshia Poole & Jasmine Hoffman, who discussed the need to create a notification alert system for hit and runs. They shared the tragic story about Jayanna, who was killed November 18, 2016, in a hit and run crash. They are working to create Jay Alerts, which will notify auto body repair shops in instances of hit and runs. That notification system will hopefully deter drivers from fleeing a scene. The presentations led to a thoughtful conversation about how the public can stay involved in these changing laws. Piscitello Law is so grateful to collaborate and support shared efforts to make our roads safer. Thank you to Nicole, Jasmine, and Ayeshia for your steadfast advocacy.
